Research Interest:

Laura currently works with Ben Zuckerman studying the evolution of debris disks. Her particular interest is in finding the ages of the stars which host debris disks through a variety of methods in order to better understand how debris disk parameters evolve over time. A large part of her thesis work also focuses on the ages and IR excesses of low-mass (M-type) stars. She typically uses the 3-m Shane telescope at Lick Observatory and the 10-m Keck telescope at Mauna Kea to obtain high-resolution optical spectra of her stars to determine spectral type, moving group membership, and age. She is also very interested in STEM outreach and education, and has lead the Astronomy Live! outreach group for 2 years.
